The Militancy of the Sermon at Vespers by Bishop Michael Goldade on the day of his Consecration.

“[T]oday we see such wreckage. If the Catholic Church in her Tradition brings forth life, the modernist church is a desert. It kills everything that it touches. It kills the supernatural life. It kills the sources of grace. It dries up everything, because it has placed man in the place of God, and therefore turned away from the sources of life.”
In what was clearly the most militant set of statements at the SSPX episcopal consecrations on July 1, 2026, Bishop Michael Goldade articulated the very reason for the entire traditionalist movement. Without these reasons, there would not only be no justification for the traditionalist Catholic movement, but there would be no need for the traditional Catholic movement. His very consecration indicates that those who consecrated him and the many many efforts to consecrate valid Catholic bishops by non-SSPX groups and individuals, understand that there is such a need. First, he mentions the "wreckage" brought about since the 1960s, which continues into our own time. We think of the massive loss of faith, the collapsed Mass attendance, the closing of church, the Modernist takeover of universities and colleges, the inter-religious worship previously forbidden to Catholics, worship services that bear no resemblance to the traditional Catholic worship of the past, etc, as being included in this "wreckage" "Wreckage" clearly means that some great structure is more or less destroyed.
Msgr. Goldade nexts correctly states that the Catholic Church, the real Catholic Church, must give supernatural life. Its very essence is a conduit of supernatural grace without which supernatural sanctifying grace cannot be conveyed to man. As we see now, and have seen in the past, the supernatural life of the Church conveyed to men has not only brought souls to Heaven, but it has also created the greatest and most universally triumphant civilization that has ever existed. To this, Bishop Goldade speaks of a separate entity, which he refers to as the "Modernist Church." This entity, which has obviously been mistaken for the true Catholic Church by hundreds of millions, brings about the opposite, it brings about supernatural death. This is clearly the reason for evoking the image of the desert as opposed to the green garden of the actual divinely-established Catholic Church. If the "Modernist Church" is a "desert," which kills off the supernatural life, it CANNOT BE the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church in any of its actions, could NEVER kill off the supernatural life of souls or of a civilization. It is a matter of faith that this is impossible. Our experience has shown that the greatest thing which the Novus Ordo church kills off is the Catholic Faith in baptized souls. That is what clearly what is meant by the bishop when he states, "It kills the supernatural life." Can anyone have supernatural faith and, yet, say that all religions are simply "different languages" that all men use to speak to God.
When Bishop Goldade says, the Modernist church, "kills the sources of grace," he MUST be indicating that he believes that the Modernism of the Modernist Church renders its sacraments invalid. I cannot read "kills the sources of grace" in any other way. Good on him. I am proud of him. It is apostolic to warn people about this. I have alway wondered how a priest who was trained with Hegel, Kant, Heidegger, Husserl and Marx could possibly effect the sacraments, how they could intend to do what the Church actually does.
Finally, Bishop Goldade points to the, as John Paul II called it, the "anthropocentric theology" of New Church as the ultimate reason for the defection of the "Modernist Church" from the faith and the supernatural life. The Church is meant to express the supernatural life of God to men and to lead them to a complete sharing of that supernatural life. It has nothing to do with working towards making this world into an earthly utopia. The "churches" are directed towards totally different ends. As he knows from being one of my philosophy students, a "telic" difference indicates an ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCE.
Good on you, Excellency. You have expressed the very essence of our resistance to the evil monstrosity of the Counterfeit Church.
